When the moon rose he flew back to the Happy Prince. “Have you any commissions for Egypt?” he cried; “I am just starting.”

“Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow,” said the Prince, “will you not stay with me one night longer?”

“I am waited for in Egypt,” answered the Swallow. “To-morrow my friends will fly up to the Second Cataract. The river-horse couches there among the bulrushes, and on a great granite throne sits the God Memnon. All night long he watches the stars, and when the morning star shines he (소리를) 내다, 지르다 one cry of joy, and then he is silent. At noon the yellow lions come down to the water’s edge to drink. 제비가 대답했습니다. “친구들이 이집트에서 저를 기다리고 있어요. 내일이면 친구들은 나일강에서 두 번째 폭포까지 올라갈 거예요. 하마가 갈대숲에 누워 있고, 큰 화강암 위에는 멤논이라는 신이 앉아 있지요. 멤논 신은 밤새도록 별을 보다가, 샛별이 빛나면 기쁨의 소리를 내고는 조용해진답니다. 낮이 되면 황금빛 사자가 물을 마시러 물가로 내려오죠. 사자의 눈은 에메랄드 같고, 으르렁 소리는 큰 폭포 소리보다도 더 크지요.”
